Connecting the Community
Communication and Partnerships
The Fresno Arts Council maintains and updates a list of over 1,500 e-mail addresses for sending out current arts and cultural information on a regular basis that includes exhibition notices and invitations, workshops, art and cultural classes, performances and job announcements.
Our Executive Director represents the FAC on the California State University, Fresno’s Arts and Humanities Advisory Board, Downtown Fresno Coalition Board, the Council of 100, The Fresno Art Museum as well as meeting with the City of Fresno concerning the art on the Fulton Mall. Many of these groups take advantage of the resources that FAC offers, which includes access to our e-mail list and mailing list of over 2,000.
FAC has formed a partnership with the County of Fresno to bring art to the Family and Children’s Mental Health facility located in the old Valley Children’s Hospital. FAC solicits funds from the community in order to paint murals and hang art in the building. RFP's are open to all artists in the community who want to participate in this project.
ArtHop
The successful FAC sponsored ArtHop brings out about 1,000 people to view art at the artists' studios, galleries, and other venues on the first Thursday of each month. Artist(s) at each site are available to talk with the public and discuss their art. This program has increased from 12 participants ten years ago to currently over 70 participating Art venues.
Artists have seen an increasing number of people interested in buying and collection their art in the last few years as this program has grown
Horizon Awards
In 1984, the Fresno Arts Council began recognizing leading individuals and businesses who have contributed to the enrichment of the arts and cultural life in the valley. Nominations for the Annual Horizon Awards are sent to over 2,000 on our mailing list, our e-mail list and posted on our website. The Spring of 2007 was the 22nd year that FAC has given a reception for the award winners. We have honored over 150 citizens who have contributed toward the enrichment of life in our community through excellence in the arts. More than 2,000 people from the Valley have attended this event over the years. It is an opportunity for FAC to discuss our activities and inform the audience of our new programs.
Arts Workshops and Tours
We conduct tours of the art and architecture on the downtown Fulton Mall for school students and the general public. We also hold workshops for docents from the Fresno Metropolitan Museum that will conduct Mall tours for their school programs in the future. FAC is actively involved in working with the City to promote the preservation of the Fulton Mall as a pedestrian only street. We are part of a major effort to revitalize our downtown area with an emphasis on mixed use and new housing.
News and Events Services
We provide timely broadcast of news and events to our mailing list of arts enthusiasts. We also provide news and events marketing services where FAC handles event attendees' registration and payment online.
Artists/Group Meeting Space
The FAC office is located in downtown Fresno, which offers art organizations and individual artists the use of its space for workshops and receptions with tables and chairs for 20 people. A number of groups whose own space is limited or wish to meet in a central location request the use of this room. When a request is for Saturdays or evenings, one of our staff is on duty to make the room available. We are located on street level at 1245 Van Ness Ave.
Our office is handicap accessible and bus service is within one block of the building. Parking is on the street next to our front door. We offer wireless internet upon request.
