Thomas Spears
 first major exhibition titled “Things Hidden Since The Foundation” will open at 1821 Gallery & Studios thru March 14. Spears’ work is a mixture of oil on wood and canvas as well as some mixed media work. The work is about Prehistory. It is about the relationship between the sacred and the profane, predestination and free will, creation and destruction, consequence and choice, grace and futility. Spears graduated from CSUF in 2011 with a degree in art. He has won the Judges Recognition Award Fall 2010, Spring 2011 Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition.

Arte Américas, the Valley’s largest Latino cultural center will debut a new exhibition to coincide with National Women’s History month on Thursday, March 5 featuring thirty-five artists from throughout California. The show is titled “One Degree of Separation: A Sisterhood of California Women Artists” and will fill all four galleries in the Downtown Fresno cultural arts center.

This coming Second Saturday ArtHop art enthusiasts will find the Art Scientifique Exhibit in the Main Gallery. In Sorensen Hall the spectacular exhibit by Julia Tanigoshi Tinker “The Art of Gyotaku – Fish Tales” will continue. Over 40 artists have their studios and galleries at Chris Sorensen and many of them will be on hand for the Second Saturday ArtHop.

For the month of March, Gallery 25members Barbara Van Arnam is presenting a solo exhibit that includes paintings, drawings and sculpture created over the last two years. These years as we all know, have been marked b many events triggering fear, uncertainty and anxiety. Van Arnam’s art focuses on a world of infinite positives in the life around us that can provide support and tranquility in the face of these unpleasant influences. The work is grounded in the environment that surrounds the studio and home of the artist, and is filled with the changes of light and life that the cycle of the seasons bring.

M Street Arts Complex will be featuring artist Terry Ellsworth for 2nd Saturday. He is branching out into a new medium of photography whereby he creatively enhances his images to obscure the obvious and bring about a new perspective on the subject matter. We will also feature mixed-media fine artist Valerie Runningwolf,  Louie Quijada, Claudia Fletcher, encaustic artist Valerie Greene, Roy Harland and Jason Esquivel.
