The Arts Alliance of Three Rivers announces an exciting new project with a call to all visual and literary artists. We are working on plans to publish an anthology of the best art and literature about the southern Sierra. The working title for the anthology is Wonders in Our Backyard, with a target release timing in the fall of 2013. Proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Lorraine Young Memorial Scholarship Fund which provides financial assistance for local art students.
Project Chairs, Nancy Jonnum and Karen Kimball of Three Rivers, had been mulling over this idea for some time. As visual artists, they were familiar with many of the area’s finest artists who paint, photograph, sculpt and depict the natural wonders of the Sierra Nevada mountains using diverse media. Pairing these visual artworks with some of the elegant poetry and prose by local area literary artists became an intriguing concept for Nancy and Karen. They wondered, could they create a collaboration of these diverse artists? They decided “yes” and this new book project was born.
If you are interested in submitting your creative work for the book, please download submission guidelines and entry forms at the pdf links listed below. All visual and literary artists are welcome to make submissions, which must express some aspect of the southern Sierra Nevada region–Giant Sequoias, rivers, lakes and streams, wildlife, experiences in the forests, feelings, sensations or sentiments about the natural area. Deadline for all submissions is March 1, 2013.
