Call to Fresno County Artists
The Villages at Broadway
The Fresno Arts Council is accepting artist’s proposals for a Mural to be painted on the South Wall of the Villages at Broadway. The proposal will include ideas for original work to be commissioned for the site. This project calls for an installation that is some or all the following: welcoming, bold, creative, durable, low maintenance, imaginative and reflective of the theme.
The theme for this project is “The City Beat”, or “On Broadway”. Additional project information including site picture and space dimensions, is available below.
All estimates should include cost of installation, labor, materials, and insurance. The proposed work will need to be approved by the Housing Authority Art Review Committee.
A site visit will be scheduled for Tuesday June 30, 2020 at 10 a.m.
The Art Review Committee will narrow submissions and choose the final art to be included in this project.
The Villages at Broadway is a major renovation project of a vacated motel (formerly Econo Inn) that had operated in Downtown Fresno along the Fulton Corridor for over 50 years. The Villages at Broadway is being developed in partnership with the Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health and will provide affordable housing opportunities in an urban downtown setting featuring 25 studio units and a one-bedroom unit. This major renovation includes significant interior and exterior design elements that will create safe and healthy quality housing.
The new housing community will consist of a complete rehabilitation of units; bathrooms, kitchenettes and other traditional amenities will be added. There will also be the creation of community and green space to house services for residents as well as property management functions. Future residents will be provided with energy efficient appliances, solar and fully furnished units.
The Villages at Broadway community was designed to help revitalize the neighborhood and create a place of recovery and regeneration for some of the most vulnerable in the community. Future residents will have the opportunity to transform their lives with services provided by the Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health. Case workers will provide one-on-one services specific to the needs of each resident who will be supported by having stable quality housing opportunities.
We currently have $50,000 allocated for this site for the installation of at least one 84’ x 18.25’ (1,533 sq. ft.) mural. During the walk-through, other areas for art will also be identified. It is possible to submit a proposal for more than one coordinated image which would include the large piece and a smaller piece to go in the interior Courtyard.
Total project cost cannot exceed allocated amount.
