“Abstracted Abstracts”
By Kikuko Young
March 13th – 31st, 2015
Reception/Arthop, Thursday, March 19th, 5-8pm
Young paints mostly landscapes and still life in watercolor and can often be found plein air painting with the Tuesday Group, but she also works in other media. Creating abstract pieces has been a recent endeavor and she is a figurative sculptor as well.
“When I paint, I usually try to think of the elements in painting: Shape, Line, Pattern, Color and Value.  When I work on an abstract, however, I mostly think of Shapes and Colors.  Once I make decisions about those two, I just keep moving the brush or tools on the canvas I’m using, and I keep in mind the Shapes and Colors, maybe the Lines also, during the process.
