What is the Fresno Arts Council?

The Fresno Arts Council (FAC) is a state-local partner to the California Arts Council and is designated by the county board of supervisors to serve Fresno County’s residents.

As the local arts agency for the City and County of Fresno, the FAC provides financial support, services and arts programming to a variety of cultural arts organizations, individual artists, regional art initiatives, and diverse communities.

CITY OF FRESNO’S CULTURAL ARTS PLAN, 2023

The City of Fresno adopted its Cultural Arts Plan in August 2023. This plan was required by the Measure P Ordinance in order to identify cultural arts priorities in the city before awarding Expanded Access to Arts and Culture Funds. These funds will increase access to, support, and amplify the City of Fresno’s Cultural Arts communities and initiatives. Grant Applicants should read this plan, noting how their proposal aligns with the priorities identified within.  

 

On Thursday, April 20, 2023, Joseph Rios was proclaimed the sixth City of Fresno Poet Laureate at the Fresno City Council meeting. He will serve as a cultural ambassador for Fresno’s poetry community effective immediately until March 31, 2025. Please join FAC in celebrating Joseph Rios at a reception at Fresno Arts Council Thursday, April 20th at 5:30pm.

Joseph Rios is the author of Shadowboxing: Poems and Impersonations (Omnidawn), winner of the American Book Award and was named one of the Notable Debut Poets by Poets & Writers Magazine for 2017. His poems can be found at Poem A DayHuizache, The Rumpus, the San Francisco Chronicle, and on Metro buses and trains in Los Angeles. He was recently named a Stegner Fellow by Stanford University. He lives in Fresno.
